To experience more of the amazing diversity that Namibia has to offer we recommend a stay at a Wilderness Safari camp either before or after your riding safari.
These small exclusive camps are situated in stunning locations and staffed by guides who have a great understanding of this country’s unique flora and fauna.
ONGAVA SAFARI LODGE
Ongava is situated on the edge of Etosha National Park, Namibia’s premier game viewing destination and one of Africa’s largest game parks. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season making for exciting game viewing. The lodge has 14 very comfortable rock and thatch built chalets. The rooms lead out onto a private covered verandah overlooking the bush. There is also an inviting pool to cool off in. Outdoor dining under the stars, whilst viewing game drinking at the waterhole is something never to be forgotten.
DAMARALAND CAMP
Located on the north bank of the Huab River Valley, inland from Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, Damaraland Camp integrates communities, the environment and wildlife on a sustainable basis and is rated as the most successful eco-tourism venture in Namibia. There are ten spacious en-suite thatched chalets, a central living and dining area and a pool. Early morning mist, generated by the meeting of the icy Atlantic and the warm land mass along the Skeleton Coast, drifts inland along the river valley, providing sustenance to varied lifeforms. The rare and endangered desert elephant, black rhinoceros, oryx, kudu and springbok are found here.
SOSSUSVLEI WILDERNESS CAMP
The camp is situated on a private reserve on one of the most remarkable sites in the Namib Desert. It affords close access to Sossusvlei, but also offers privacy and exclusivity. The camp has been built near the top of a mountain out of brick, rock, timber and thatch. There are just nine guest rooms, each with its own private plunge pool. In the park at Sossusvlei itself, huge towering dunes, said to be the highest in the world, rise dramatically above the plains. Early morning 4x4 drives take you to this spectacular desert scenery with possible sightings of the wildlife which has adapted to these harsh conditions. For the ultimate scenic view, we can also arrange balloon safaris from the camp.
